節分（せつぶん）～日本の慣習2月～

節分（せつぶん）とは、2月3日（にがつみっか）、4日（よっか）にあたります。

Setsubun is February 3rd or 4th.

立春（りっしゅん）の前日（ぜんじつ）で、季節（きせつ）の別（わか）れめを意味（いみ）します。

The day before the beginning of spring, it means the farewell of the season.

夜（よる）には、大豆（だいず）をまいて、鬼（おに）を家（いえ）から追（お）い出（だ）し、厄払（やくばら）いをする風習（ふうしゅう）があります。

At night, There is custom to sprinkle soybeans to drive demons out of the house ,and do Apotropaic

豆（まめ）をまきながら、「福（ふく）は内（うち）、鬼（おに）は外(そと)」と言（い）います。※

While sowing beans, he says, "Fuku wa uchi, Oni wa soto."

そして、その家（いえ）の人（ひと）は、自分（じぶん）の年齢（ねんれい）と同（おなじ）じ数（かず）だけ、豆（まめ）を拾（ひろ）って、食（た）べます。

And the person in the house picks up and eats as many beans as his age.

※「福（ふく）は内（うち）、鬼（おに）は外(そと）」＝"Fortune is inside, demon is outside”
