お正月～日本の慣習1月～

1月1日（いちがつついたち）から1月7日（いちがつなぬか）までは、新年（しんねん）を祝（いわ）います。

From January 1st to January 7th, we celebrate the New Year.

初（はじ）めてあった人（ひと）には「あけましておめでとうございます」と挨拶（あいさつ）を交（か）わします。

We will say hello to those who meet for the first time, saying "Happy new year".

1月1日＝「元旦（がんたん）」「元日（がんじつ）」と言（い）います。新年（しんねん）の門出（かどで）を祝（いわ）う日（ひ）です。

January 1st =We say "Gantan""Ganjitsu".It is a day to celebrate the beginning of the new year.

1月1日から、3日（みっか）までを「お正月（しょうがつ）」、「3が日（さんがにち）」と言（い）って、仕事（しごと）を休（やす）みます。

From January 1st to the 3rd, we say "Oshougatsu""Sanganichi"" and take a break from work.

1月7日（いちがつなぬか）までは「松の内（まつのうち）」といいます。一般企業（いっぱんきぎょう）はこの日迄休（ひまでやす）むこともあります。

Until January 7th, it is called "Matsunouchi". General companies may take a rest until this day.

正月（しょうがつ）には、「おせち料理（りょうり）」や「お雑煮(ぞうに)

」を食（た）べます。

On New Year's Day, we eat "Osechiryōri" and "Zōni".

「初詣（はつもうで）」と言（い）う神社（じんじゃ）やお寺（てら）まいりをします。

We will visit shrines and temples called "Hatsumōde ".

元日（がんじつ）には「初日（はつひ）の出（で）」を見（み）に行（い）く人（ひと）も多（おお）いです。

Many people go to see "First Sunrise" on New Year's Day.

家（いえ）で「かるた取（と）り」や「凧揚（たこあ）げ」、「羽子板（はごいた）」をして遊（あそ）びます。

I play "karuta picking", "kite flying", and "bagoita" at home.

子供（こども）は、大人（おとな）たちから、「お年玉（おとしだま）」と言（い）うお金（かね）を貰います。

Children receive money called "Otoshidama" from adults.
